Laser Engraving FAQ
What is laser engraving?
While sometimes referred to as laser etching or cutting, laser engraving is accomplished when an electrical current shoots through a carbon dioxide filled tube because of science. After that, it creates a beam that reflects off a bunch of mirrors which can then mark or vaporize the surface of an item. In other words, the laser scratches the surface leaving a lasting imprint. In conclusion, it’s pretty darn neat.
Why laser engraving?
Since laser engraving is very versatile, it can be used to decorate several different kinds of materials to create a lasting impression. For instance, by having an in house laser engraver, we can turnaround one of a kind, high quality gifts or awards directly to the consumer.
Engraving is a growing field with so many new applications being introduced daily. In fact, they even laser engrave onto food! Can you engrave on jewelry?
Unfortunately we cannot laser engrave on jewelry with our type of laser. We can engrave on a wide variety of other mediums so if you have glassware or other certain metals, bring it in and we will let you know what your options are.
Can you engrave photos?
Yes – photos make an excellent medium for laser printing and can add historical or sentimental value!
What is the maximum size of your engraver?
Our laser engraver table is 24”w x 18”h x 9”d. So if you have anything larger than these dimensions, we may not be able to engrave your item in house. For cylindrical objects like drinkware and vases, 8″ diameter is the maximum size. However, we can probably figure out a solution or find another supplier to decorate it for you. Don’t be afraid to reach out to us.
What kind of laser engraver do you use?
We use an American made co2 laser.
Can I bring in my own object for you to laser engrave on?
It depends. You can check out what we can engrave in our laser engraving section. To be safe, we would like to see the object first to be sure. Send a picture with dimensions or stop in to visit so we can take a look.
Do you engrave name badges or remembrance plates?
Whether you need name badges or a remembrance plate, we can accommodate your needs. Choose the material you would like, the color, and size, and we will provide the finished plate or badge. With name badges, you can also choose from various backers. For plates, we can provide frames, desk blocks, or drilled holes in the corners. What can I expect when engraving on bamboo?
Color variances are to be expected on each item, as no two bamboo pieces will be the exact same shade, even within the same lot. Due to natural variations in the grain, laser engraved imprints will have slightly different shades. After lasering, a tone-on-tone look is very common and should be expected.
Does UV Printing improve the color of the engraving?
If you want to add some color into your decoration, we recommend UV printing.
